Yep; he was linked to Valencia, but it seems now that he will stay at PSV.

I hope it too,but diddn't he played in the Gold Cup tournament in 2003? The rest of his caps were friendly!

I know that back in the past you could play without any problem for the country you were born and the country you really lived for many years, Ference Puskas is an exellent example of it.A Puskas scenario for Gomes would be fantastic for him and us, but the FIFA must allow this.

Or South American players could play for 2 nations because the players were from Italian or Spanish descents, that's why Italy were so good in the '30's and you diddn't hear anything of Argentina and Brazil.

Great news! Gomes has played 4 friendly games for the Brazilian national team and currently some lawyers are looking at possibilities for him to play in the Dutch National Team!

So there's hope!

Brazil was invited as a guest nation back then, and is it a official tournament for them?

Great keeper, but do you seriously want him to play for the DNT? Apperantly he doesn't even speak fluent Dutch after four years.

I think your making a big mistake there! He can speak good Dutch, but Joep Schreuder keep asking Gomes all of his questions in Portugese. dry.gif

For starters : I am an Ajax-fan, but I also really am a fan of Gomes.

Did someone see the match PSV-Ajax yesterday? Johnny Heitinga made a foul on Gomes somewhere in the 2nd half. Gomes went to the ground, grabbing his thigh. Then he stood up and went to Heitinga, asking for a yellow card when the ref arrived. When the ref gave Heitinga a yellow card, Gomes went to the ground again, grabbing his thigh again and rolled twice.

For the ones who cannot really visualise what I am telling : remember Dida during the CL-game Celtic-AC Milan when he was hit by a Celtic-"fan"...

I was disappointed that Gomes made an act like this too, didn't expect him to something like this... I find him a very fair player.

Well; I'm a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Gomes-fan. But he has always done these things. He often acts theatrical during matches; he did it two or three seasons ago against Ajax as well. That's the worst part of Gomes.

Hmm, that's weird, but it seems you're right about that. Though I didn't find them myself, there are said to be PSV TV interviews with him in Dutch indeed. So I'll believe you on this. Not that I think it's such an achievement to speak Dutch after being in the Netherlands for four years though...

Anyway, it wouldn't change my opinion about him playing for Oranje. All these naturalizations just directly oppose the essence of national football teams.

Last weekend Gomes once again saved PSV Eindhoven as he kept no less than 21 shots from NEC Nijmegen out.
IPB Image

He's currently #1 at Man of The Season ranking of psv.netwerk.to, which is something no keeper has ever done before.
IPB Image

He's sharing the top position with Heitinga in the Footballer of the Year ranking in the Telegraaf:
http://www.telesport.nl/voetbal/vvhj/

And in the other ranking by sportweek, he's also #1.
http://www.sportweek.nl/voetbal/54386/Voet...ay_nadert_Gomes

There is no doubt about it; Heurelho Gomes is going to be the first keeper EVER to become the best player of the Dutch league. Perhaps that has never been done before in any other European league either!

He's again having a great season indeed, but I don't quite agree about him being the first keeper ever to be elected as the best Eredivisie player. Though no keeper ever became "Nederlands Voetballer van het Jaar", four goalkeepers won the "Nederlandse Gouden Schoen", which is (almost) the same prize Gomes might win this year.

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nederlandse_Gouden_Schoen (Piet Schrijvers, Ed de Goey, Edwin van der Sar and Jerzy Dudek all won the Gouden Schoen)
