it's better to buy players with a young age, when you train his best skill. 17 - 19 years. Else, the max. age for me is 23.
My player, is Passable playmaking and inadequate scoring. 17 years young, now it's a crapy player, but when you train, he is very, very good. Believe me.
You can see my player, in my players list. With a dollar-sign behind his name.
Yes; you need to make a difference between two type of players:
1) Trainees (young players (age 17-22) who you will train. If you want to train midfielders you need to buy young players who are reasonable in playmaking and train 'playmaking'. Then slowly your trainers will gain skill and they will become better. However your other players (defenders, keeper and strikers) won't gain skill.
2) Other players (not young players, but good older players). These are the players, you don't train. PJ (the guy above) is talking about trainees, while I was talking about older players. If you train goalscoring however, you must indeed buy young players, because young players gain skill quicker! If you don't train goalscoring, I recommend older strikers!
Hope this helps!
