I'm sorry; footballclips.net have blocked direct linking, so all links won't work anymore! I will upload the file on another place as soon as possible!

EDIT: It's uploaded now! Please note that the Shake Da Room compilation is now encoded in .wmv which has made the file 10 MB smaller.

I just wondered something. As I know the editors of Valencia CF have visited this site and forum multiple times, I wonder could it be that the nickname they made up last week, was taken from Marcus' compilation title? tongue.gif

Only ShakeDaRoom and PK Tribute are online at the moment!

To download Shake Da Room, you first have to click "free" on the first page. Then you have to wait till the counter stops; then the link will appear!

Downloading PK Tribute from yousendit.com, speaks for itself!

What was their nickname then? mellow.gif
Adje
Perhaps it's an older nick-name.

And I have a theory:
Take look at the clip I've added, it's from Marcus' previous compilation at exactly 3 min. and 11 sec. Patrick greats the public with a 'black power' greeting. This was also done in the 1968 Olympics by Tommie Smith and John Carlos who came 1st and 3rd in the 200 meters.
This is often mistaken to be a tribute to the 'black panthers', a rather radical political group in the United States. It's not! The greeting was an attempt to give a voice to the problem of racism. It was discussed widely in the newspapers, first as something 'Hitler-like', but later people recognized that it is something completely different. The runners were excluded from the Olympics, and were received back in the US with death treats. Only later their voice was heard, and they were honoured for making this statement.

For Kluivert it was a way of getting back at the public, I think. They were probably making jungle noises, or something stupid. I think I hear something at the back ground, but I'm not really sure. At least the game was not played in Camp Nou, so the public must have been hostile, their team is getting battered, Paddy just scored the 0-3.

Now we all know how tabloids handle stuff like this, they are rarely careful about what they print. My theory is that they as well mistakenly took it as a black panther greeting, and hence gave him the nickname.

I know I don't have all the facts, but I still think it might be one of the best ways to face racism. The salute is controversial in itself, and always makes way for discussion.

Of course, my above post is bollocks when Marcus realy did thought up the nick-name.

Excellent and educated post.
Regarding the name "La Pantera Negra" it is not that difficult to understand why I choose it for my video. He has always been called "The Black Panter" for as long as I can remember. I got a few wallpapers with that theme that from the late 90´s. So its the same nickname, just with a Spanish Spin on it.wink.gif
Delantero9
La Pantera Negra means The Black Panther? But what does Black Panther mean? Is it positive or negative?
And, Adje, I didn´t quite get your point in your theory.

He was called the black panter in his early days because of his goalscoring. He poached goals like a panter poaches dears or whatever.

Right, and my theory (it's bullocks now), was that he might have 'earned' the name because he makes a 'black power' salute in the clip I've added.

However, I have told you lot about the black power and black panther movements, and I have educated you about some Olympic history tongue.gif

Nono; the "Black Panther" name isn't from that greeting. It's an older name which Marcus used, so I thought maybe Marcus reminded the Valencia CF guys.

Anyways; that footage is from the game of 21 December 2002 against Mallorca (at Mallorca) where he scored 0-1, 0-3 and 0-4 (all 3 goals are online). If you listen closely, you can still hear the jungle noises every time he is close to get the ball. He did the black power symbol at the 0-1 and the 0-3!

It's a great thing, though. I always knew the story about Tommie Smith and John Carlos, they are kind of heros to me. Something like Jesse Owens. Perhaps I was just looking for an excuse to make this thread. biggrin.gif
